Inspired By LaChapelle Images: Glamour, strange beauty

This series was made to represent the artist/photographer that I researched for my artist profile project.  I chose David LaChapelle, a man who specializes in media.  What I found most interesting and magnetic about his work is that it is very surreal, dreamy, and bold.  He uses bright colors and creates interesting situations for his models.  His models are often celebrities and he brings out certain aspects of them and about fame and America in general.  In this series I was inspired to capture glamour/dreamy shots.  I used barbies instead of real models because I thought that it would be easier to control and make exactly how I wanted.  Also, barbies are beautiful, made to look glamourous and perfect.

  1. Except for the last picture that leaves me quite uncomfortable (LOLjk), these are very nice! I like how you made them into actual people and took the element that they are just a doll out of the picture.

  2. I really like your second photo. I like the close up on Barbie and the contrast of her face and the decoration behind her. I also like how you used the same print in the background, just changed the story on the Barbie. The picture has amazing clarity and I really really like it!
    Good Job Sacha!

  3. I really like that you used barbie dolls in your pictures. I like how the 1st picture was in color but the rest was black and white. It had a very old Hollywood feel that I really liked. Great Job

  4. I like how you can see the colors and how the gold hair of the first barbie shines, i also think its cool how you went PG-13 on the black and white barbies.

  6. I really like the concept you came up with, it is really unique while also incorporating modern media. The barbie dolls really do represent that perfect model figure. The backgrounds you used emphasize the bright colors that David LaChapelle is known for using, so I can see where the inspiration came from. Although I wanted to see more variety in the background designs. The idea of the barbie dolls in the cup with foam adds to the surrealism aspect.
